“Haute”–From the Glamour Portfolio

The word “haute” is appropriate for a glamour image as it means “fashionably elegant.”   This image was created in a studio in San Francisco as part of a fashion shoot.  It is possible to rent a fully furnished photography studio by the hour in most large cities, and this often includes lighting eqwuipment, strobes, drapes, and most other things needed to create any image planned. You will need the camera equipment, the props, and anything else that will be useful for image creation. A studio shoot is very much like making a movie, so there needs to be a script with most of the images previsualized and the props and models selected to create the mood and image you are striving for.  As you set up the image and start shooting (filming) there will always be images or movements that appear unexpectedly and will add to the fun and final product. Having defined and sketched at least a dozen or more possible looks allows you to quickly move to a new plan if one idea isn’t working–which is always the case. This will help the frustration of not getting the images you want and helps to use the studio time effectively. In my experience, there are always ideas that spring up during the shoot that are always worth following and bring unexpected rewards. Studio and outdoor photography benefit from the same preplanning and previsualization. It is always essential when working with a model.
