The image “A Touch of Class” is from my “Glamour Portfolio.” Glamour is the “air of compelling charm, romance, and excitement…alluring.” In photography, the lighting used to convey this mood was high contrast black and white or color images that hinted at exposure of a beautiful person, but held something back so as to add a feeling of mystery, or implying a hidden charm. In most situations, high contrast lighting is avoided, especially in color photographs, as both the highlights and shadows fall outside the proper exposure range. This technique works well, however, in glamour photography, as the eye can be directed to the point of interest with a highlight, and then be left to fill in the “mystery” by using the viewers imagination to fill in the missing information. This color image of a woman’s face shows this technique well.
